Guilin South Railway Station http://www.chinahighlights.com/china-trains/guilin-south-railway-station.htm

Brief Introduction

There are two railway stations in Guilin: Guilin Railway Station ( also called Guilin South Railway Station) and Guilin North Railway Station. Among the two, Guilin Railway Station is larger and is more used by travelers.

South Railway Station (Guilin Railway Station)

Location: It is located at Zhongshan South Road (Zhongshan Nan Lu) in Xiangshan District, close to the bus station.

Guilin Railway Station was built in 1938 and expanded in 2005, after which its capacity has been largely increased. Currently, it can host up to 1,5000 passengers. There are trains from Guilin Railway Station to the major cities in China which includes Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Guangzhou, Nanjing and Hangzhou. There aren’t direct trains to the areas father north Beijing such as Northeast China (Heilongjiang, Changchun and Jilin provinces). Likewise, direct train to Northwest China (except for Xi’an) is not available. Travelers who want to travel to these regions need to change trains in either Beijing or Zhengzhou.

Guilin South Railway Station is conveniently located in the city center, at the main street of Guilin (zhongshan Road). Around the station, there are plenty of budget hotels. The best hotel close to the Railway Station is Guilin Osmanthus Hotel, which is a three-star hotel.

Beijing West Railway Station http://www.chinahighlights.com/china-trains/beijing-west-railway-station.htm

General Features:

Name: Beijing West Railway Station.
Address: East Lianhuachi Road, Fengtai District, Beijing. Beside the West 3rd Ring Road.
Location: 2,372 kilometers away from Shenzhen Railway Station; 1,254 kilometers away from Harbin Railway Station; 1,468 kilometers away from Shanghai Railway Station.

Passenger services: Luggage check-in and parcel shipping.
Passenger Capacity: 200,000 passengers a day.

Overview

The Beijing West Railway Station, or Beijing West for short, was completed in early 1996. It is one of three major railway stations in Beijing. There are also small train stations. Beijing has the most advanced and extensive railway lines in the country. It’s main gate is a huge building that looks like a big gate. It’s so big that it is kind of disorientating to walk around in it. It was the largest railway station in Asia until August 1, 2008 when the Beijing South Railway Station was officially opened. The Beijing West Railway Station was still the busiest railway station in China in terms of passenger use per day in 2009. Trains from Beijing going to central, south, southwest and northwest China leave from this station. The cities served include: Hong Kong (Kowloon), Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xi'an, Zhengzhou, Nanchang, Chengdu, Guiyang, Zunyi, Chongqing, Changsha, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Guilin, Nanning, Hohhot, Xining, Jinan, Urumqi, Kunming, Hangzhou and part of Shanghai.

Beijing West Railway Station has two plazas in the front: the North Square and the South Square. The South Square is near Lianhuachi Park and the North Square is one kilometer away from the China Millennium Monument. The entrance and major ticket offices are situated in the North Square. Passengers who get into the station from the South Square should walk through the underground passage leading to the North Square and then enter the West Station. There are two exits in Lower Level 2: North Exit 1 is in the east and North Exit 2 is in the west. The luggage claim office is located in the West-Wing Building of the North Square and the luggage check-in counter is in the East Wing. Also there are many bus stations in both squares. There are plans to connect the Beijing Railway Station with the Beijing West Railway Station.

Transportation around Beijing

Underground Taxi Station

The taxi area in the Beijing West Railway Station is located underground. Passengers can get taxis at the Taxi Dispatch Center in Lower Level 2 and Lower Level 1 east of the north exit. There is another Taxi Dispatch Center under the east helical ramp of the North Square. Due to the heavy traffic on the North Square of the Beijing West Railway Station, there are no official taxi lanes on the street in front of the square. Taxis are not supposed to stop there, but taxis do go there to pick up passengers anyway.

Transport to the Other Railway Stations

There are three major railway stations in Beijing: Beijing Railway station, Beijing West Railway station and Beijing South Railway station. Trains leaving for most cities of China depart from the three stations. The Beijing North Railway Station, formerly known as the Xizhimen Railway Station, is now a small (Tier-III) station managed by the Beijing Railway Bureau that provides regular intercity train services to the north and northwest. It is also the southern terminus for the  Beijing Suburban Railway.

Beijing Railway Station

Passengers can take Bus No. 9, No. 673, Special No. 2 and No. 52 in the North Square to get to Beijing Railway Station directly. To take the subway, walk northwards from the North Square to the "Military Museum" Station on West Chang"an Avenue and take Beijing Subway Line 1 and get off at the Fuxingmen Station and then transfer to Beijing Subway Line 2 and get off at the Beijing Railway Station.

Beijing South Railway Station

Passengers can take Bus No. 72 or Bus No. 122 that goes to the Beijing South Railway Station. Bus No. 53 and No. 741 pass by the South Station.

Beijing North Railway Station

Passengers can walk northwards from the North Square to the "Military Museum" Station on West Chang'an Avenue. Take Beijing Subway Line 1 and get off at the "Fuxingmen" Station and then transfer to Beijing Subway Line 2 and get off at the "Xizhimen" Station. Bus No. 21 can also take passengers to the "Xizhimen South" Station.

Ticket Booths

All tickets for trains departing from Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing Railway Station, Beijing South Railway Station and Beijing North Railway Station within four days can be bought at Beijing West Railway Station. Also, tickets for trains departing from other places in the railway network of the country in 20 days are available in the ticket booths here. The location and functions of the ticket booths are as follows:

Brief Introduction

Shanghai Railway Station has the heaviest passenger traffic of all railway stations in Shanghai. It is on a stop of the Shanghai Metro Line 3, Line 1 and Line 4 subway lines. It is called "The New Railway Station" by locals. It replaced the old Shanghai Railway Station (the "Old North Railway Station"). Since Shanghai is one of the major hubs in China's rail network, trains departing from the station leave for destinations all over China, including high-speed EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) trains to Beijing, the Express Train to Tianjin, and the Express Coach to Kowloon in Hong Kong. Unlike most stations in China, there is an Immigration Check Point and Customs office at the station for the Shanghai-Kowloon (Hong Kong) Express Train. At present, there are eight regular waiting areas and a soft seat waiting area, as well as a special terminal for the Hong Kong express train, and Immigration and Customs. The ticket hall of the Shanghai Railway Station has a total of more than 80 ticket windows, including 20 at a ticket office in the Beijing East Road Huangpu District.

Location: Shanghai Railway Station is located on Moling Road in the Zhabei District of Shanghai. It is 309 kilometers away from Nanjing West Station, 201 kilometers away from Hangzhou Railway Station, 2 kilometers away from Shanghai North Railway Station, and 1463 kilometers away from the Beijing Railway Station.

Transportation

Outside the Shanghai Railway Station are two plazas in the north and in the south. The north square is under reconstruction. Passengers can check out and reach the exchange hub through a passage at the southeast exit of Shanghai Metro Line 1. Due to its excellent connection with the Shanghai local bus network, the station can also easily be reached by scores of bus lines. Night buses are available to every district.

Shanghai Metro Line 1, Line 3 and Line 4 all pass next to the station, so there is an adjacent interchange station of the same name. The location of the stop for Line 1 differs from the location of the stop for Line 3 and Line 4. There is discount with Shanghai Public Transportation Cards. Since June 2008, passengers can enjoy 30 minutes of continuous billing with the Shanghai Public Transportation Card.

Services in the Shanghai Railway Station

  • The pre-sale period for high-speed EMU train tickets is 20 days. Tickets are available for purchase at the EMU ticket office, at ticket windows and other special ticket offices and at ticket outlets. Notices for EMU train ticket sales are posted at special ticket offices and ticket outlets
  • Ticket sales will be stopped 10 minutes before the departure of EMU trains.
  • Refunds of tickets are required at the train station before the departure of the train, and a 20% refund fee should be charged. Except for passengers with sudden injury and illness, tickets will not be refunded after the departure of the train.
