This place is huge, has two front desks and occuping half a block directly opposite the train station so very handy location-wise. Staff spoke English and gave us a nice reception, but the first room we were showed faced a grey back alley and was a little run down. When we asked if we could have a room facing the crossroads and train station plaza, the bellboy took us up a couple of floors to a much, much nicer room which was probably redecorated not too long ago, with a great view. Apparently, price was the same (160 RMB - a splendid deal).

Nighttime, though, traffic can easily disturb the light sleeper, and also there were some loud talking people in the corridor until late. Room had all mod-cons including a/c, was clean. No breakfast and hotel restaurant was closed

The Newly Opened Xiao Yang Lou International Youth Hostel is located in the city center, next to the famous local Nanmen bridge and aside the peach blossom river which originated from Guilin’s famous two rivers and four lakes.
The Hostel is conveniently located in the centre of Guilin, a five minute walk from the train station, only three minute walk from the bus station and 30 minutes by vehicle from the airport.
Only a few steps from the famous Elephant Hill.the hostel is also surrounded by quiet, quaint streets with plenty of birds flying past and the sounds of the river flowing in the distance. Fishing, swimming & diving are all activities in front of the hostel, and when you need a rest, you can relax sitting by the river with a beer & enjoy the beautiful scenery. Nightfall offers a whole new environment watching the moons reflection in the river from a stroll on the banks, or even taking a boat tour from the hostel’s jetty under moonlight. No English signage, no English spoken, no English menu, but has a photo menu and friendly staff. Serves a wide range of food from simple mushroom dishes to elaborate banquet style dishes. Around 24 yuan for avgerage main entree, 2 yuan for tea. Short walk northwest of city center.

Bamboo House Inn & Cafe was founded in 2001, located in West Street. It has cheap and comfortable dorm beds, western style toilet and beautiful Mountain View from the roof top rooms. Our cook can make great Local Chinese food and delicious homemade banana bread.
